Farmers’ Almanac followed up their “Wet Winter Whirlwind” long-range forest issued on Monday with this short video surmising their methods and what they think winter 2024/2025 has in store. Their proprietary model mixes elements from the original editor’s who drew correlations between celestial events and meteoritical conditions and modern day data points like the effects of La Niña which is characterized by the periodic cooling of ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean:

For over 200 years, the folks at Farmers’ Almanac have issued annual long-range weather forecasts. They still use some of the original rules set forth back in 1818 in their modern forecasting formula but have updated it to account for fluctuations in the environment, sunspots, the motion of the moon, and other proprietary factors. Today Farmers’ Almanac issued their annual Winter Weather Forecast and they are calling for a “Wet Winter Whirlwind” for winter 2024/2025:

“Our 2024-2025 Winter Weather Forecast is here! This year, buckle up for a season of wild weather swings and lots of moisture – it’s looking like a Wet Winter Whirlwind! We believe in helping you make the most of whatever Mother Nature throws our way.”

Using their long-standing formula while taking into account the effects of La Niña, Farmers’ Almanac anticipates the winter of 2024-25 will be wet and cold for most locations:

According to the extended weather forecast / prediction / outlook from Famers Almanac, the winter of 2024-25 is shaping up to be a season of rapid-fire storms, with La Niña playing a key role in the colder and wetter conditions. The season will officially kick off with the winter solstice on December 21, 2024, and will likely bring a mix of rain, snow, and frigid temperatures.

Expect the coldest weather to hit from the Northern Plains to the Great Lakes, with particularly harsh conditions in late January and early February. Meanwhile, New England and the Northeast are in for a stormy winter with significant snowfall, especially inland. In contrast, the Southern Plains and Southeast should see milder temperatures, while the Pacific Northwest faces a chilly, wet season.

Key dates to watch include late January, when a series of strong storms could bring heavy precipitation and gusty winds across much of the country.
