Foliage, Disc Golf, and FallFest Fun at Smugglers’ Notch
Foliage season in Vermont is a breathtaking natural event, peaking from late September to mid-October. The state’s forests—rich with sugar maples, oaks, and birches—burst into vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. The actual cause of this stunning transformation is the shortening daylight, not the cool temperatures. As the days grow shorter after the autumnal equinox, trees slow down their energy production, preparing for winter. Vermont’s charming towns, scenic drives, and hiking trails provide the perfect setting to experience this captivating season firsthand.
During this colorful season, don’t miss two standout events. From September 19-22, the prestigious Green Mountain Championship will return to Smugglers’ Notch. As part of the Disc Golf Pro Tour, the event takes place on the challenging Brewster Ridge and Fox Run courses, bringing top players to compete on these renowned terrains. On September 20, Fiddlehead’s FallFest offers an evening of live music, craft beer, and local food from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm, featuring performances by Soulshine Revival and Zach Nugent’s Dead Set. It’s a family-friendly event, with free admission for kids under 12, making it a perfect way to celebrate autumn in Vermont!
