COLORADO – We’ve seen snow falling across the Rocky Mountains over the past few days, leaving a light accumulation of the good stuff at ski resorts in Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. The storm seemed to mostly miss Colorado, though. But meteorologist Chris Tomer is predicting something a bit different, and a bit more intense, over this weekend.
Chris Tomer has been a mountain meteorology consultant for around 20 years, assisting several professional mountaineering expeditions on the highest peaks in the world with weather forecasts. He’s also a passionate skier and trail runner, and his care for those sports is evident through his Mountain Weather Updates.
According to Tomer’s forecast, Colorado will see some very active weather beginning Saturday afternoon, with some snow at the highest of elevations. Sunday morning, however, is when the party really gets going. Snow seems likely anywhere above 9,500 feet, while anything above tree-line could see some heavy accumulation. Some places, including several of Colorado’s famous 14ers, could see over a foot of snow.
