New Hampshire — This past weekend, the Northeast got its first taste of winter. Jay Peak and Whiteface saw their first snowfalls, renewing stoke amongst skiers and riders. Unsurprisingly, the spot with the wildest weather in New England also got in on the action.
On Monday morning, the Mt. Washington Observatory woke up to a coating of fresh snow. The total measurement of 0.1 inches gave the New Hampshire peak its first measurable snowfall of the 2024-25 season. According to the Boston Globe, Mt. Washington also saw glazed ice, a freezing drizzle, and snow grains/pellets on Sunday.
The good news for avid skiers and riders is that while this is a normal time for the first measurable snowfall, it is a month earlier than last winter’s first measurable snowstorm on Mt. Washington (October 8th).
After a cool stretch earlier this week, warmer weather has returned to New Hampshire for the foreseeable future. However, winter is coming.
