It may seem a little early for a mountain weather snow forecast but Chris Tomer has video for us. Tomer released a long term winter weather forecast last week, discussing the jet stream setup, Northwest flow setup, La Nina effect, and sea surface temps. While there isn’t a ton of snow if the forecast, the upcoming storms do a great job at displaying his long term predictions.

Chris Tomer has been in mountain meteorology consulting for around 20 years, becoming a go-to expert for several professional mountaineering expeditions on the highest peaks in the world. Based in Colorado, Tomer is a passionate skier and trail runner, and his love for outdoor sports shows in his forecasts.

While there likely won’t be a ton, Northern Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado could see some snowfall at higher elevations in a first burst beginning around 11pm today, September 16, and heading into Tuesday and Wednesday. A second burst on Friday and Saturday will mainly impact Colorado. Despite it being early season and despite there being very little snow, these incoming weather patterns mimic Tomer’s long term jet stream setup.
